I was honoured to be a presenter at last night’s Canadian Digital Awards at the Carlu recognizing Canada’s excellence in the Digital Media producers space. As Co-chairman of the Canadian eLearning Enterprise Alliance (CeLEA) I was part of the team tasked with selecting the top performer in the eLearning category. Congratulations to Bombardier Manufacturing System Fundamentals by Ellicom Inc.
The Digi Awards was a first class event and it opened my eyes to the broader digital solutions community. I met some very cool people including, Arisa Cox, host of the show, Amber Mac, Kundan Joshi and Shahrzad Rafati, CEO, BroadbandTV, Executive of the Year Winner. Here’s a link to all the the winners. Congratulations to the organizers of Digi Awards!
I always enjoy the month of December as a time to reflect and take stock of the past year’s events. With this in mind, we turn our attention to selecting our Canadian Top10 EdTech Newsmakers of the Year. If you know someone worthy, or believe you have the right stuff. Please drop me a personal email with a short paragraph with the name of the individual and highlights. Here’s a link to last year’s selection as a refresher.
Connecting with Sheldon Levy, president, Ryerson University was very cool rently at the York University, Bryden Alumni Awards last month. Sheldon is a former colleague from my York U days. I learned this morning that he announced his retirement at the end of his term. In my estimation, Sheldon could very well have earned himself a Top10 ranking given his stellar work and innovative spirit at both Ryerson and Sheridan College. Coming back to the Bryden Awards, I would be remiss if I didn’t congratulate my friend, Guy Burry, recognized for his Outstanding Contribution: Dedication to the advancement of the University through exceptional service, commitment and contributions
Congratulations to all Bryden Award winners!
Just to finish up with York University, I want to pay tribute to a friend, colleague and mentor, Steve Dranitsaris, who announced recently that he will be retiring from York University after 40 years of service, most recently as Senior Executive Officer in the Office of the Vice-President Finance and Administration. His stellar work earned him numerous awards including the Local Hero Bryden Alumni Award. A proud fellow Stong College graduate, Steve inspired me to get engaged as a York alum. He also gave me my first job after graduation. His friendship and mentorship will always be appreciated and remembered. We need more individuals like Steve Dranitsaris, who strives for excellence, appreciates the value of relationships and giving back to community. Congratulations on 40 years of service at York University. Now its time to write that book on the history of York that we’ve talked about!
Please drop me a note to share any news for my musings column. Until next time, walk the digital talk!
Cheers, R.M.
