Interesting report, What is the Future of Learning in Canada? from our friend Dr. Paul Cappon, CEO, Canadian Council on Learning. It marks the final report as the organization lost its funding this past year. The report analyzes all aspects of learning in Canada (Early Childhood, K12, Post-Secondary, Adult and Lifelong Learning, Aboriginal Learning). Canadians should have cause for concern.
As a proponent of keeping the “learning curve steep.” I must say the report raises a few red flags:
- Canada no longer has an autonomous body conducting research on a national scale like the CCL
- As a country we remain fragmented when it comes to education being a provincial jurisdiction, given the lack of interagation with the federal government and funding pockets.
- We have wonderful pockets of innovation, however, the long-term prospects for Canada competing on the 21st Century Global Stage requires ongoing investment in research and innovation at all levels of government.
